Before I truly began my health and fitness journey, I thought I had a pretty good idea of what it meant to live a “healthy” lifestyle. Like many people, I followed what seemed popular—low-fat foods, counting calories, quick-fix diets, and endless cardio. But despite my efforts, something always felt off. I wasn’t seeing the results I hoped for, and more importantly, I didn’t feel great in my body.
Everything changed when I picked up a copy of Deep Nutrition by Dr. Cate Shanahan.
This book was a complete game-changer. It didn’t just tweak my approach—it flipped my entire understanding of nutrition and health upside down in the best possible way. Dr. Shanahan introduced concepts that were both ancient and revolutionary at the same time. She emphasized the importance of traditional foods, ancestral wisdom, and the power of real, whole nourishment.
What stood out to me most was the idea of looking to our ancestors—not for trendy diets, but for timeless principles. They thrived without modern processed foods, artificial additives, or extreme diet plans. They nourished themselves with nutrient-dense, whole foods that supported long-term health, strength, and vitality.
Reading Deep Nutrition opened my eyes to the deeper connection between what we eat and how we feel, look, and function. It inspired me to clean up my diet, focus on quality ingredients, and embrace cooking in a more intentional, meaningful way. I started viewing food as medicine, and that shift had a ripple effect throughout my entire lifestyle.
Since then, I’ve felt more energized, clear-headed, and in tune with my body. I’ve built habits that I genuinely enjoy and that I know support my long-term well-being. Deep Nutrition didn’t just start my journey—it gave it purpose, direction, and a solid foundation rooted in something real.
If you’re feeling stuck, confused, or overwhelmed by all the mixed messages out there about health, I truly recommend giving this book a read. It might just be the wake-up call you didn’t know you needed—just like it was for me.
